CAWEE ANNUAL GOLF DAY:
NETWORK A NEW COURSE IN BUSINESS

CAWEE 2011 Annual Golf Classic was a smashing success!

To everyone who came out to enjoy a fantastic day at Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto - thank you for your participation and ongoing support of our event.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and prize donors for their participation and generousity. We would especially like to thank Susan Hodkinson for bringing her firm Soberman LLP on board as presenting sponsor this year. Our hole sponsors included Lindsay Karabanow of Royal LePage Realty Plus who served delicious beverages for our thirsty golfers, Dana Mitchell of Postrozny Financial Security Inc. (the infamous marshmallow game), Christine Bourne of Lone Star Texas Grill, Ashok and Sri who came out for SednaVoice and arranged a fun putting competition, Irena and Anna-Lisa from Teknion, Marc Klerer from Harkel, and Denise Robertson of Mills & Mills LLP (our fabulous Evening Event director). Many CAWEE members and guests of CAWEE provided some amazing prizes for both our auction and the golfer prize table (a complete list of donors is available here). Funds raised from the auction will go to Massey Centre for Women, CAWEE Charity of the Year. Don't miss next year's program!

A special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor:

LUNCH & LEARN HIGHLIGHT:
Tea and Toppers Tops Lunch and Learn Events!

By Beth Parker

It was the talk of CAWEE with hat chatter spreading throughout the King Eddy this past July 21. CAWEE’s first ever summer Lunch and Learn featured David Dunkley, award-winning milliner and Canadian businessman, who’s actually placed hats on royal heads. David swept in with the lovely model Rebecca, and an assortment of Dunkely original creations—the most fetching hats and fascinators that CAWEE ladies have every laid eyes on.

“This “, said David with pride and a wink to the spell-bound crowd, “Is what I’m called “I’m wearing a hat and you’re not….”

It was a veritable hat-lovers event (whether you consider yourself a hat person or not). The capacity crowd of 50 each sported their own style, several in head ware of their own or “lifted” from David’s display for a moment of hat stopping fame. Melvine modeled a fabulous black number with rare feathers, while Martha Dove chose a tall, “look at me” hat. Others dabbled more slowly with single fascinators, demure business hats and summer fedoras.

Owner of KCsHats (KCsHat.com), David talked to the capacity crowd about his illustrious career. A master milliner, he has studied with the former royal milliner to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. His creations have been worn by members of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's royal entourage and at functions attended by Her Majesty.

At our function, tea was served, King Eddy style, including scones with clotted cream and cucumber sandwiches. Generous CAWEE members (as always) donated fabulous door prizes including some great royal kitch. Long past the event ended, CAWEE loyalists and King Edward staff were still hanging in, fondling the hats in awe and most likely, imagining themselves at the Ascot or the next Royal Wedding.

JULY & AUGUST - BREAKFAST NETWORKING WITH A TWIST:

This summer, we did something a little different for our monthly breakfast networking meetings. Following the success of our networking activity at our International Women’s Day event, we turned the July and August breakfasts into Speed Networking sessions.

For these breakfasts, we waived the “two only without joining CAWEE” rule and welcomed a number of new faces as well as many of our core members for two wonderfully successful events!
