The Massey Centre for Women
The community roots of the Massey Centre go back to the opening year of the twentieth century, when the Fred Victor Mission opened its doors to a woman in need and subsequently founded an organization dedicated to supporting unwed pregnant women, single mothers, and their infants. This mission, known at various times as The Door of Hope and the Fred Victor Home for Unwed Mothers, was eventually incorporated as The Massey Centre for Women in 1989.

By the end of the 1980s, it had become clear that many young mothers would benefit from a longer period of residence following the birth of their children. By 1991, a major expansion was completed, and featured additional residential accommodation, a model daycare facility, and improved programs and services.

Massey Centre has continued to adapt and change with the times and expand its outreach to the broader community. In 1998 a computer and job training project for single mothers was established; in 2003, we became the lead agency for the Ontario Early Years program in the Toronto/Danforth Riding.

We offer a wide range of services and supports to pregnant and parenting teenagers and their infants, including:
  • Residential and transitional housing programs
  • Infant Mental Health program
  • Primary health care
  • Community housing, information, and referral services
  • An onsite secondary school, in partnership with the Toronto District School Board
  • Early Learning Centre
  • Ontario Early Years Centre
  • Clothing Bank/Donations Program
  • Volunteer Program
  • Women Supporting Women mentorship program
